Eat a variety of nutrient rich foods that are low in calories. Your body needs more than 40 daily nutrients and one kind of food cannot supply all of them. By eating limited whole grains preferably gluten free, vegetables, fruits, and protein you will be able to give your body nutrients.
Maintain a healthy weight. Even if you could use to drop a few pounds it is healthier to maintain weight at a healthy level rather than going up and down. By eating 3 servings of whole grains, 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of vegetables a day you will keep your metabolism high and achieve weight loss. Fill your stomach with fiber rich foods and protein and watch cravings for sugar and empty carbohydrates begin to diminish.
Balance your food choices over time. Do not eliminate foods that you like from your diet all at once. If you deprive yourself of certain foods then you may start to crave them more and this could trigger overeating. Just reduce the portions and the number of times you eat unhealthy food during the week.
Read labels. Food labels can be deceiving just because it says” vitamin enriched” or “healthy” on the label does not necessary mean it is good for you. A good rule for making healthy food choices is to eat whole, fresh, unprocessed foods whenever possible. If you do buy packed food then read the label, smaller the ingredient list the better.
Don’t be confused about carbohydrates; they are not all bad. There are good carbohydrates called complex carbohydrates that are needed for our body to operate. These carbohydrates come from whole grains and fiber which are good for you and make you feel full longer.
Total nutrition and maintaining healthy lifestyle is work. Implementing nutritional foods into your family’s diet may be easier than you think.
